Dennis’ Horseshoes, founded by the late great Dennis Ohms, “Mr. Horseshoes”, is now under the capable direction of his daughter Amy Ohms Archibald. Amy was Utah’s first ever Junior Girls State Champion and was a member of the nation’s first ever Junior League in the 1980s.
Dennis Ray Ohms, 1945-2015
A horseshoe organizer and product distributor for more than 30 years, Dennis was instrumental in bringing the NHPA World Tournament back to Utah in 2013 and 2017. With his influence there are 4 generations of Ohms family members participating in horseshoes.
Dennis grew up in the heyday of horseshoe pitching when World Tournaments were broadcast on both radio and television! His father, the late Ray Ohms, who is a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) Hall of Fame, was instrumental in organizing the World Tournament during its 12-year tenure at Murray, Utah in the 1940's and 50's. Under his father's tutelage, and inspired by family friends such as Fernando Isais and Ted Allen, Dennis himself became a State Champion and was considered by many as a tournament organizing specialist. Dennis was instrumental in winning the sanction for the Southern Utah Horseshoe Pitchers Association (SUHPA) and, by popular vote, served for 30 years as its president. As a regional distributor for the NHPA for 30 years, Dennis provided horseshoes and game-related items to thousands of horseshoe pitchers, from professional world champions to backyard hobbyists. In 2017, Dennis was inducted into the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) Hall of Fame.
